Quilting by the River

New this fall, Quilting By The River is pleased to present select quilting workshops at the studio in Worthington.

These learning opportunities will combine a broad range of artistries, and are designed with beginner and advanced students in mind.

The one day specialty sessions will be taught by Carla Alexiuk, owner of Quilting by the River.

Carla has been an active quilter for over 20 years, teaching to large and small groups across the province.

These one day sessions are limited to 4 to 5 people per day, occurring Tuesdays or Wednesdays of each week, beginning September 20, 2016 (some weekend options available). The list of projects will develop overtime as they become available. Your group can choose a project from the list below for that day.

#1 Lets make a Tuffet

This workshop is 1 and a half days.  We will begin by meeting for a 1/2 day introduction and to get started piecing the tuffet top. The second day is a full day, with students leaving with a completed tuffet.  Tuffet kits are available (if you wish) so all you have to do is bring your fabric.

#2 Star Light Table Runner

Using the "Wing Clipper" tool and "Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star" Ruler by Studio 180, create this very dramatic table runner.  With the use of these tools and a pattern by Doug Leko of Antler Quilt Designs, this runner, quilts up in a flash.  These tools make getting your points pointy and the Blazing Lemoyne is one of 6 in the lemoyne repertoire.  In our day together, you will have one Blazing Lemoyne and a strip of specialty flying geese made.  Finish the runner at home with your new skills and techniques.  All Studio 180 tools and notions can be purchased here at the studio.

                  #3 Tumbling Triangles

Just use two contrasting fabrics and create triangles tumbling down a quilt. This quilt is fun and quick to put together. Just jump right in and give it a whirl!

Six project sizes: 13” x 13” / 27” x 27” / 40” x 40” / 53” x 53” / 67” x 67” / 80” x 80

#4 Love Links

Interlocking chevrons make a fun and unique looking quilt. A difficult looking design is made easy using flying geese, making this a quick and easy quilt to master.

Eight project sizes: 13” x 14” / 26” x 28” / 39” x 42” / 52” x 56” / 65” x 70” / 78” x 84” / 91" x 98" / 104" x 112"

#4 Galaxy

Galaxy is a beautiful alternating block design using two types of blocks, one with a green star and one with a  black/grey star. Because of the color placement and the different angles in the triangles, the interesting interlocking circles appear, and the second star block disappears into the circles. It’s a fun optical illusion, easy to make and even easier to admire.

This quilt is constructed with the "V Block" tool by Studio 180 Design.  In your One Day session you will construct the two different blocks and be on your way to completing this quilt.

                                                                           ·        Three project sizes: 42" x 54", 63" x  81", and 84" x 108"
